Workers are losing an estimated 25 million work days each year due to migraines, figures show.*
 
The condition affects less than one per cent of the population – an estimated 610,000 people – but with its chronic symptoms, employees are suffering lengthy absences from work, reducing their productivity by more than 50 per cent and costing the economy £2.25 billion a year.
 
The figures come from the Migraine Trust which said migraines are also costing a further £150 million just in terms of medication.
 
The symptoms are so severe that the World Health Organisation (WHO) categorises the condition at the same level of disability as dementia, quadriplegia and acute psychosis.
 
The WHO also classes chronic migraines at a higher level of disability than blindness, rheumatoid arthritis and paraplegia angina.
 
Leading clinical research specialist MeDiNova is looking for volunteer migraine sufferers beween the age of 18 and 65 to take part in a forthcoming trial to evaluate the effects of a new treatment for migraines from biotech firm Amgen.
 
Kumar Muthalagappan, Chief Executive of the company, which operates out of research centre in north, south and east London and Madrid, said: “Characterised by a severe, throbbing headache, migraines bring misery to thousands of men and women and is often associated with other symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light and noise.
 
“Every case is individual and while some may only suffer migraines occasionally others can experience several attacks a month.”
 
He added: “There are many treatment options already available but work is ongoing all the time to discover new treatments which may prove more effective for many individuals.
 
“Using a logging system our past studies have shown women suffer migraines three times more frequently than men and in around 60 per cent of cases it is linked to their menstrual cycle.
 
“The treatments already on the market today are the result of past clinical trials similar to the one we will be holding in November. They are crucial to our understanding of the condition and to our finding new remedies.”
 
MeDiNova will conduct a Phase III trial for Amgen.
 
A Phase II trial of Amgen among 483 migraine sufferers earlier this year was hailed a success. At the beginning of the trial patients suffered migraines over an average 8.7 days per month. By the end of the trial this had dropped by 3.4 days per month based on the maximum dosage of the investigational treatment.

What is Rett Syndrome?

This family event is led by local volunteers, and raises crucial research dollars and public awareness of Rett Syndrome (RTT). The Strollathon 2015 event was held in Lakeland, Florida. This year event in just one day raised a total of $32,121.30. In the last two decades, the urology market has increasingly become a technologically driven and dependent specialty market. ZALESKI Ohio—November 18, 2015— The Village of Zaleski is named for Count Peter Zaleski, a Polish investor in the Zaleski Mining Company in the 1800s. Tamara Mash’s partner Jan McKibben grew up in the village of Zaleski. It was one of those growing up in Mayberry types of experiences. In the summer, kids would ride their bikes down to the General Store to get a bag of chips and a soda with a quarter. The men all met at the general store in the morning and drank a cup of coffee before going to work, the ladies all stopped in on the way to the Post Office. The General Store was the center of the village. A place where a person could find out what was happening in the area, and a place where word got out if someone needed help. As with all smaller towns, Zaleski was built around mining, the Charcoal Iron Industry and the railroad. Unfortunately, the Village has been economically stagnant for years. Currently, there is no store in the Village. The old general store closed a few years ago. The residents need a place to buy groceries and other necessities. So, Jan and Tammie want to resurrect both the Zaleski Company General Store and boost the community's spirit, get some groceries on the shelves, and return to the times when the store was the center of the community.

The store will provide delivery, at no charge, of groceries to the elderly or incapacitated. The general stores decor will display relics and pictures of Zaleski's rich historic past. The village is surrounded by the Zaleski State Forest and is just four miles away from Lake Hope State Park, which would supply the store with tourists and hunters year round. They will purchase local crofter's creations, which includes handmade items and soaps, to display and sell to tourists. They will purchase produce and eggs from local farmers, and sponsor a farmer's market. It is our hope that by using different activities and events to attract tourists to the village more businesses will show an interest in locating in the community thereby improving the economy of the area. However, before they can reopen the general store, Tamara Mash needs help. That's why they launched this Kickstarter campaign. The goal of this project is to raise $55,000 by December 21, 2015. The funds raised will go towards purchasing and upgrading the building to get the certificate of occupancy, stock up the store, as well as cleaning and remodeling.
