Rose Marie Whiteside has produced a series of five books for young readers containing valuable life messages written in rhyme. The series is called “Noise from the Locker Room”, the locker room reference here meaning the ones in schools where kids like to hang out and talk about life and what’s new.
To do this, she combined the knowledge gained from a long career working with children and adults in a variety of programs related to life choices and character building with a desire to guide her son along the path to good choices. She used a format they called rhyme time because she personally enjoys writing in rhymes and felt that made it easy and fun for him to understand what she wanted to say. All five books are available in paperback on Amazon.com.
Each “Noise From the Locker Room” volume features delightful locker room illustrations, a quotation about the subject and its value explained in rhyme. For example, one volume quotes Abraham Lincoln’s definition of character: “Reputation is the shadow. Character is the tree”. Another volume pays tribute to Nelson Mandela who said, “It always seems impossible until it is done”. The author feels her words from within the locker room can assist youth and parents in examining the choices with which they are faced.
Before writing the “Noise from the Locker Room” series, Whiteside published “As for Me and My House – Education is Important” which she says is a GPS for parents of school-age children who are concerned about their journey through today’s public education system. It is also available on Amazon.
Rose Marie Whiteside lives in New York state. She is a senior citizen who has worked for several decades in many fields involving children. She graduated from Syracuse University New York with study divided between political science and English literature. Her MSW is from SUNY Albany’s first graduation class for social work in 1967.
