Popular WBU Light-Heavyweight Boxer Rock Blackwell Unveils All New Website
BALTIMORE, MD, JANUARY 6, 2016 — #1 ranked light-heavyweight contender Rock Blackwell recently launched his official website WWW.ROCKBLACKWELL.COM. Designed by 2AM Creative Production under the management of his long time PR/Brand Director Trea Davenport-Chin, the boxing champ’s new site features an interactive gallery, fight stats, media highlights, philanthropy, event updates and more. 2015 was pivotal for the 29-year-old boxer out of Baltimore, Maryland named Yahu Gavriel. Not only was his lineage officially traced back to Israel, confirming his Hebrew heritage last year, but he made tremendous strides spiritually and professionally. He was chosen to grace the cover of Exceptional People Magazine, featured and interviewed by media outlets including Revolt TV, BET, All Hip Hop, Examiner, Los Angeles Post, The Donna Drake Show, NBA All-Star TV, Geeks and Cleats, Baller Alert, Bring the Pain Sports Show, Steam Africa, Before It’s News, World in Sports, Presidential Style, Live with MJ!, Black and Sexy Hollywood, Sophisticate Relations, Capital Communicator and MusicXclusives TV.
According to the humble fighter, “Victories in the ring don’t make me a champion-service to the people does.” A writer for Beforeitsnews.com says of Blackwell, “It’s not rare for a celebrity to attach their name to a charity or to make out a salary sized check to donate for a good cause, but what is rare, is to see someone be as hands-on as Rock. The charming boxer makes it no secret that he credits his success to none other than ‘The Big Man upstairs’. Even when on a strict schedule Blackwell finds the time to speak to youth and spread positivity at local schools.”
Other causes supported by the charismatic WBU champ in 2015 included Hashtag Lunch Bag DC and his personal endeavours to provide food and supplies to area homeless. The dedicated athlete attended Trent Tucker Celebrity Bowling Event to raise funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and the National Basketball Association Wives Association ‘Touch of Life’ gala, which is a benefit for the American Cancer Society during NBA All-Star Weekend in New York City.
Last August, Blackwell partnered with the My Sister Cares Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to improving the lives of orphans in Cameroon. Rock now serves as the public face of the organization, which seeks funds to establish orphanages across Cameroon that aim at alleviating the suffering of some 510,000 children orphaned by AIDS, and left to nature. In a press announcement Blackwell has committed to give $65,000 to My Sister Cares, and will journey to Muea in southwestern Cameroon, to assist in the building of the first orphanage which will break ground later this year.
Furthering his commitment to today’s youth, in 2015 Rock published a comic book entitled Hearing the Bell in which he took on a superhero persona to teach kids the difference between right and wrong, and now true to that message, Rock in real life is living out that cause.
The champ also visited Samuel Coleridge Taylor Elementary where he spoke to a crowd of children, eager for guidance and a success story that began from humble roots. Rock stressed to that the key to success in anything is a range of hard work and humility. He offered practical, heartfelt advice echoed with sincerity and experience. In addition to pouring words of wisdom to the students, Rock interacted one-on-one, signing autographs and playing football.
Rock’s visibility and training efforts expanded to the west coast for the 2015 ESPY Awards to pay homage to the biggest names in sports. He attended countless ESPY related events, secured tons of press and literally ‘rocked’ Red Carpet with the likes of singer Michelle Williams of Destiny’s Child, actress Tiffney Cambridge of ‘Marrying the Game’, NFL great Terrell Owens, ESPN’s Cari Champion and many more fellow celebs. While in LA Blackwell was spotted signing autographs on Rodeo Drive, grabbing high end SWAG at Spotify Premium VIP Influencer Lounge and BG Sports Enterprises Inc. and Aesthetic Everything’s ESPYS Gifting Suite; an exclusive invite only for professional athletes.
The top ranking contender worked tirelessly to keep his flawless physique in top fighting condition. In addition to working with his die-hard long time team back home, he travelled the country and abroad to advance his game. Blackwell explained, “I value the knowledge of others and I realize that I still have much more I can add to my arsenal. I learn a little from everyone I come across.”
He trained alongside Roberto Jalnaiz, a four-time boxing Olympian who won a gold medal in the 1990 Asian games in the men’s bantamweight division and spent time training with Floyd Mayweather Sr., Floyd’s uncle, Roger Mayweather, as well as Freddie Roach, who currently trains Manny Pacquiao.
To round out the year [and his resume, the diverse athlete not only added comic book publisher, activist and spokesperson to his credit, but also designer and entrepreneur. He visited the One Life Collection Showroom in Los Angeles to plan and begin production on an exclusive custom active wear line.
Blackwell has had a very impressive amateur run, going 156-28 before turning professional and fighting overseas. He holds a 15-0 record by the International Boxing League as a light heavyweight. Standing at 5’ 11’, Blackwell is all ripped and massed (185 lbs), yet he is often described as an atypical American boxer, mostly due to his gravitating persona. In the ring he throttles with combos showcasing all there is to boxing; confounding jabs, dynamic footwork, and a sparingly served dose of showmanship. Compiling impressive victories in Scotland and in Spain ranked him #1 in the country for the WBU and #10 in the world as a light heavyweight.
