Seven students from Sacred Heart School (www.sacredheartkingston.com), a private, Catholic, co-educational school for students in preschool through grade 12, recently attended a “What is Engineering”  workshop at Lockheed Martin in Marion, Massachusetts.

High school students Ian Colleti, Olivia Colombo, Nick Fantasia, Daniel Kelliher, Ethan Kelliher, Sam Presutti and Loren Simpson, accompanied by Sacred Heart Program Director Dylan Collins, participated in the November 23rd program; the goal of the program was to bring awareness to the many different fields of engineering and how they apply within the workforce.

Students paired with members of other regional high schools and traveled “round robin” style to meet Lockheed Martin engineers.

The program concluded in a competition where students vied for the best catapult design, with Sacred Heart 10th graders Olivia Colombo and Nick Fantasia awarded first place prizes for their design.

“We were so pleased to be a part of this unique educational experience,” said Collins, noting that students look forward to attending future Lockheed Martin workshops.  “Sacred Heart has a long-standing reputation for offering students participation in innovative programs such as this.”
