AKHAN SEMICONDUCTOR, INC. SCHOLARSHIP ANNOUNCED AT THE INTERNATIONAL CONSUMER ELECTRONICS SHOW ...

Gurnee, IL., January 6, 2016 – Akhan Semiconductor, Inc., an Illinois company formed in 2013, announced the creation of a new scholarship and internship program for science and technology students interested in materials science, semiconductors, and advanced technology related to diamond, fullerenes, graphene and next generation electronic devices.  This announcement was made earlier today at the International Consumer Electronics Show being held in Las Vegas, Nevada, by Adam Khan, the Founder of Akhan Semiconductor, Inc.  In 2015, more than 170,000 individuals attended the International Consumer Electronics Show with 2.2 million net square feet of exhibit space.

Created jointly by CEO Adam Khan and COO Carl Shurboff, the scholarship will provide ten students with an opportunity to work alongside world-class scientists at a technology incubator being built in Gurnee, Illinois, commencing in the Spring semester of 2017.  The incubator will include a clean room housing several CVD plasma reactors.  Each student will receive a $1,000 scholarship voucher to be credited towards the use of the reactors. Students will gain valuable, real-world, hands-on, experience in technology that is revolutionizing microelectronics and many other fields of science and technology.

Adam Khan is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Akhan Semiconductor, Inc. Mr. Khan studied both physics and electrical engineering at the University of Illinois at Chicago before pursuing research at the graduate level at Stanford University’s Stanford Nanofabrication Facility (SNF). Mr. Khan has worked in various positions within the field of condensed matter research ranging from theoretical work in unconventional superconductor systems to applied work in diamond semiconductor systems.

Carl Shurboff has over 25 years of semiconductor and technology related experience, including both product research & development as well as technology commercialization from well-respected institutions, such as Motorola Inc., Motorola Mobility, and most recently Argonne National Laboratory (U.S. Department of Energy Federal Research Laboratory). Mr. Shurboff has 26 granted patents and patent applications, and holds an Executive MBA from Kellogg School of management at Northwestern University, a Masters in semiconductor devices physics from Arizona State University and a BSEE from Purdue University.
