DAN BAINBRIDGE

Crackers #2, Rotisserie Pig Drum,

Kinetic Whale, and the 7 Snakes

Saturday, January 23, 2016

To begin promptly at 7pm

Brooklyn, NY, January 12, 2016 – ART 3 is pleased to present a new performance by Dan Bainbridge entitled Crackers #2, Rotisserie Pig Drum, Kinetic Whale, and the 7 Snakes. The event will take place on Saturday, January 23rd at the gallery, 109 Ingraham Street, in Bushwick and begin promptly at 7pm. Using a non-liner format and eclectic cast of characters; the performance will reference science, technology, and ritualistic experience. Assemblage sculptures will serve as both backdrop sets and props for singers and musicians. Some of these artworks will be kinetic and wired with speakers, motors, and pulley systems.

As was evidenced in his recent solo exhibition at ART 3, Bestiary, Bainbridge is no stranger to a menagerie of lovingly tended to, vulnerable, bandaged, and disjointed creations. This time around zoologically based imagery will include a sperm whale, nest of cobras, and pig turning on a sprocket. Performance props will range in scale from that of a creature rustling in a 20lb bag of rice, unseen excepting a tuft of fur and reticulated wooden tail, to that of a grand double-sided rotating wall that requires a bit of shoulder to put into motion. Artworks will be constructed of found, mass-produced, and altered items such as crystals, LED lights, leather, foam, wire, and repurposed wood.

Combining both the personal and archetypal, Bainbridge’s active participants will reveal a loose portrait of themselves, drawing from their strengths, experiences, and inspirations. Performers will include two women, one singing Norwegian black metal and one practicing White Tantric Kundalini Yoga, roadies to lend a helping hand while strumming artist-made elongated bass guitars, and a child beating a rotisserie pig drum. A feast, a celebration, and a living tableau, the performance will offer both a meditation on the moment and option of connection to a deeper transformative experience.
