The products you need to keep your skin feeling soft and smooth from head to toe all winter long

January 18, 2016 – By Christine

Even with Halloween far behind us, those season’s beauty vampires–biting winds, steamy showers, dipping temperatures, and drying indoor heat—are sucking the life right out of your skin and hair. In this case, garlic is not the answer. Below is our savvy advice for what you need to get your all around winter skin protection.

DRY, ITCHY SCALP
As the snow falls from the sky we admire the tiny unique flakes, but as those flakes fall from our head we don’t find them to be as nice. Itching and flakes can be symptoms of both dandruff (a condition caused by a yeastlike fungus) and dry scalp. In order to ensure that the only flakes falling are from the sky, try a hydrating shampoo and after a week you should start to see a difference. The Equate Dry Scalp Care Shampoo helps to kill the fungus, and stop the itching and flakes.

LACKLUSTER HAIR
With winter comes dull and depressed locks. We start to find our hair becoming more dry and noticing that it seems to have a static cling to everything! In this cold air you find yourself always having to use the blow dryer or else you face the risk of frozen strands and getting sick. With all this in mind, try to use a conditioner that works! It should include silicones to lock down the outer cuticle layer and seal in moisture. We recommend the Equate Dry Apply hair care. It works wonders on your hair and keeps those winter flyways in check. It is even worth applying a dime size of hair serum to help protect it against the harshness of the blowdryer, straightener and curler.

DULL COMPLEXION
As dead skin cells build up due to dehydration, it stops light from reaching the surface, hindering the look of a soft glow. Circulation also gets sluggish—and just like that, your glow is gone and fine lines look more pronounced. A soothing solution is to enhance your beauty from the inside out by drinking lots of water and loading up on omega-3s (essential fatty acids found in foods such as salmon and walnuts). Here, it is also necessary to follow your daily skin regimen. Starting with your favourite soap and cleanser, and finishing it off with yourmoisturizer. Every now and then, be sure to use a light face scrub to help wash off those dead skin cells and leave your face illuminated. Try out a the Clarify Skin Bright Daily Face Scrub found at your local Walmart for the perfect results.

CRACKED SKIN
With your arms and legs containing fewer oil glands then the rest of your body, they tend to be more dry and needing more attention. No matter the amount of layers we wear, our skin still feels the chill. To help keep it warm and to prevent you from having to wash your clothes every single time after you wear them (due to the scales that seem to be left behind), try moisturizing daily. Another trick is to take a milk bath! The natural fats and lactic acid can soften skin, lightly exfoliate, and abate irritation. Draw yourself a nourishing bath by adding two cups of skim milk to warm—not hot—water. Soak for about 15 minutes, pat skin dry, and apply your favourite cream to boost the benefits
