THREE RIVERS, Calif., Jan. 18, 2016, — A new article, published on a popular website that deals with dog health and behavior, gives step-by-step instructions for teaching a dog to play fetch with clicker training.
DogHealth.com, operated by veterinarian Christianne Schelling, promotes positive methods of dog training. Clicker training uses a small device that makes a unique noise that dogs can be conditioned to associate with rewards and good behavior.
Dr. Schelling says that not all dogs automatically know how to play fetch. “It might be surprising for some people to learn that not every dog fetches naturally. Some aren’t really motivated to chase toys and bring them back,” she says. “Clicker training can provide them with the stimulus they need to do it. And that’s a good thing because fetch is wonderful for exercise and overall mental and physical health for a dog.”
